Today’s Reverse Career Event at Leamington Spa College (WCG) showcased just how powerful it can be when we flip the traditional careers fair model on its head.
The day began with an AM coaching session where students reviewed their personal portfolios, practised introductions, and received tailored mentoring. This supportive environment helped them build confidence, settle nerves, and prepare for meaningful conversations later in the day.
The event was delivered in collaboration with Julie Dundas, Career Leader at Leamington Spa College, whose support and coordination played a key role in shaping the day.
By the afternoon, students were ready to present their portfolios directly to employers and take part in 1‑2‑1 interviews. This format created space for genuine dialogue — something employers repeatedly told us is missing from standard careers fairs.
Employers attending included: LISI Aerospace, Warwick District Council, NHS, F1 Digital IT, Soho House, Go Go Makers, and Lord Leycester Hospice/Hospital.
Employer reflections:
Several employers — including NHS, LISI Aerospace and Soho House — praised the format for enabling deeper, more personalised conversations with students who showed interest in their sector.
Student reflections:
Students shared that the morning session helped them feel more confident, comfortable and prepared. Many said they discovered new career paths after speaking with employers, and appreciated being listened to and guided with real‑world advice.

This event demonstrated the value of slowing down, creating space for conversation, and giving students the chance to lead.
We look forward to building on this model in future events.
